SUMMARY:ACTA Early Childhood Principles - Working Party
DESCRIPTION:The ACTA Early Childhood consultancy group has developed a set of six Early Childhood Education Principles as a statement of ACTA’s beliefs and values about home-language-based English as an Additional Language and/or dialect (EAL/D) approach in the Early Childhood years. The ECE Principles encompass all EAL/D learners: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children\, newly arrived\, migrant and Australian born children\, and refugee and refugee-background children\, functioning at all levels of home language and English language proficiency. The ECE Principles bring together the shared thinking of a large group of early childhood practitioners and researchers with EAL/D expertise from across Australia. The intention of the ECE Principles document is to raise awareness of critical issues in home language-based EAL/D education (approaches to ECE programs) for practitioners\, researchers\, policymakers\, key-stakeholders and state\, territory and federal governments. \nThis session is for practitioners and researchers with an interest in the Early Childhood Education field\, and will give an overview of the Principles before providing participants with the opportunity to workshop them. \nYou can view the Principles on the ACTA website here. \n \nThis session is run in collaboration with the Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA)

SUMMARY:ACTA International Conference 2018
DESCRIPTION:The ACTA International Conference will be held in Adelaide\, South Australia from 2 – 5 October\, 2018. \nDriving attention to the reality of local and global mobility for TESOL learners and educators\, this conference will contribute to the ongoing examination of the theories and practices underpinning the TESOL field\, and will project into future directions\, whether as policy\, pedagogy\, materials design\, assessment or community involvement. \nIn the context of increasing mobility through digital technology as well as global unrest and greater recognition of the need for improved outcomes for Indigenous students\, the conference offers an opportunity for a re-examination of the profile of our English language learners and the implications for TESOL practice. \n  \nThe six themes or strands are: \n1.   English language learners in a mobile world \n2.   English language learning and teaching for local and global participation \n3.   Embracing digital technologies in English language learning and teaching \n4.   Assessment from diverse stakeholder perspectives \n5.   English as a medium of instruction (EMI) \n6.   Professional standards and teacher identities in a mobile world \n  \nThrough these themes\, the breadth of mobility will be explored\, ranging from local and global relocations to communication and intercultural negotiation across borders. With this in mind\, the conference will be a space to critically examine ethical and practical challenges for TESOL. \n  \n Click here to book your ticket\n  \nHosted by SATESOL and ACTA.
