SUMMARY:The Later Years of Schooling for EAL students
DESCRIPTION:Speakers will include\nMelanie Reynolds – RMIT\nAlexandra Vardis – Melbourne Polytechnic\nKellie Mason & David Kezilas – Dandenong High School \nAudience: EAL teachers working with 15+yo learners in secondary schools. \n \n\n To book please click here\n\n\nTopics & Presenter Information\nPresentations focus  on EAL students transitioning from  school to post school options. Speakers will present successful programs and strategies which meet the needs of later years schooling EAL learners. There will be a balance between presenting about classroom strategies and support structures to assist young people in achieving their goals\, as well as time for questions and discussion. This session is most suitable for teachers and those working with young people in their teenage years. \nMelanie Reynolds\, RMIT \nEAL Coordinator\, Tertiary Preparation Programs\nEnglish for further study and tertiary preparation skills for young people who require additional support to access VE or university programs. We offer the following: Certificate III in EAL (Further Study)\, Certificate IV in EAL (Further Study)\, Cert IV in TP\, Cert III in General Education\, VCE \nKellie Mason\, Dandenong High School\nEnglish/EAL and Humanities Domain Leader\nWill discuss the context of her school\, provide some of the school’s data relating to EAL and TESOL students and give an overview of the different structures and programs offered at the school to support students coming from a background other than English. \nDavid Kezilas\, Dandenong High School\nEAL Subject Leader and EAL teacher\nDiscussing what DHS’s system looks like for teachers and students in the classroom\, providing a more specific context focusing on the strategies used by the teachers \nAlexandra Vardis\, Melbourne Polytechnic\nProgram Leader YAMEC CSWE Youth Programs\nDiscussion of Young Adult Migrant Education Course (YAMEC)\, a dedicated youth English language and settlement program for newly arrived young people between the ages of 15-26 years. The program supports students’ English language learning from Preliminary to Certificate III in Spoken and Written English. \nThe format is an approximately 15 minute presentation per speaker plus time for questions and discussion\, with around 4 speakers total. \nCost   $20 Member    $30 Non-Members \nPlease note that VicTESOL reserves the right to use photos from the event for publicity and promotional purposes

SUMMARY:Webinar: Tools for enhancing assessment literacy for teachers of EAL
DESCRIPTION:Presenters: Dr Alan Williams and Ms Janet Saker\n \nThis webinar will introduce participants to the TEAL Project\, an innovative e-based toolkit of assessment tools and advice for teachers of EAL students. TEAL provides teachers with a deep understanding of assessment for learning principles\, as well as access to a bank of EAL-appropriate assessment tools and tasks\, exemplars and work samples for Listening and Speaking and Writing. An online assessment tool for Reading is also being developed. \nThese tools and tasks will assist teachers to assess the English language development of their EAL students\, and to align their assessments with the EAL Companion to AusVELS and the EAL Continuum.
