DESCRIPTION:Teaching EAL (English as an AI-assisted Language): From Exrater to ChatGPT\n27 March 2025. 5:30pm – 6:30pm AEDT\, Online\nWhy has Artificial Intelligence (A)I suddenly become such a big issue? Where did it come from? Why should it be of interest to language teachers? This session briefly explores the history of AI\, focusing on Exrater\, an ‘expert support environment’ created for the ASLPR in the 1980s\,  and the use of ChatGPT in a current Masters subject on grammar for language teachers.  EAL teachers are particularly well-positioned to engage with generative AI due to their specialised grammatical knowledge. \nSpeaker\nDr Chris Corbel is a lecturer in the Master of TESOL and Master of Modern Languages Education courses in the Faculty of Education\, University of Melbourne.
