Learner Centred Assessment: Portfolio Assessment of the EAL Framework

Summary

This webinar explains how portfolio assessment can be used as a learner-centred approach to delivering and assessing EAL Framework courses. Students collect evidence of their learning throughout the course, with one portfolio containing work that may demonstrate competency across multiple units. The approach supports integrated delivery, authentic learning tasks, flexibility, student reflection and reduced assessment duplication. Successful implementation relies on strong curriculum mapping, clear assessment criteria, detailed checklists and effective record-keeping. Angela demonstrated how themed learning activities and projects can provide evidence for several units simultaneously, making assessment more meaningful and efficient.
