Presenter: Jiaqi Li is an English as an additional language (EAL) educator and doctoral researcher
This session explored the impact of changes to EAL curriculum in Victoria of teacher’s professional agency. Jiaqi Li doctoral research investigates the impact of curriculum change on teachers’ autonomy exploring in depth key themes in educational leadership and systemic implementation of new educational initiatives. The session raised important discussion on the use of curriculum in Victorian schools and gives voice to may key stakeholders including teachers, school leaders and those working in governance and regulatory roles. The session explored how change in enacting and how this impacts the professional autonomy of teachers in classrooms. It also explored current systemic challenges faced with the EAL primary and secondary sector in relation to supporting the needs of EAL learners.
The session presented an opportunity to understand preliminary findings of research and opportunity for different stakes to consider effective strategies and practices that can elevate EAL education in Victoria.
