What Grammatical Knowledge is Powerful for Specialist Language Teachers?
10 September 2024. 5:30pm – 6:30pm AEST, Online
This session describes the approach to grammar used in a Masters level subject for specialist language teachers. The subject focuses mainly on grammatical ‘know-how’, skills in using a scholarly resource, The Grammar Book. It also addresses grammatical ‘know-that’, disciplinary concepts that apply to all grammars and languages. It describes and justifies these ‘grammaring’ skills and ‘threshold’ concepts. But is this grammatical knowledge ‘powerful’ enough for participants’ needs? Would it work for you? What are the alternatives?
