Summary
In this professional learning session, Lindsay Hogg and Thao Pham from Foundation House explored the experiences of refugee and migrant young people who arrive in Australia during adolescence.
The session considered the particular challenges faced by older adolescent arrivals as they navigate education, settlement and the transition to adulthood. Lindsay and Thao highlighted the importance of recognising young people’s existing strengths, experiences and aspirations, while providing flexible pathways that support their learning, wellbeing and sense of belonging.
The session also introduced Foundation House’s Ucan2 program and considered how educators and services can better support young people who may fall between traditional school and adult pathways
