Biography
Karen E. Johnson is a Kirby Professor of Language Learning and Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University, USA. Her scholarship has been devoted to building theory and conducting research within and for the field of L2 teacher education. Grounded in a Vygotskian sociocultural theory, her scholarship centers on understanding the learning of L2 teaching, the activity of L2 teaching, and the practices of L2 teacher education. She has published ten scholarly books, the most recent edited collection: Transformative L2 Teacher Innovations: Insights from Vygotskian Sociocultural Theory (2024, Routledge) with Paula R. Golombek & Jacob Rieker. She teaches courses in the MA TESL and the Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics degree programs.

Biography
Ester de Jong is Professor in the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education program at the University of Colorado Denver. Prior to UC Denver, she was the Director of the School of Teaching and Learning and Professor in ESOL/Bilingual Education at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. She has been in the field of ESL/bilingual education for over thirty years, as a practitioner and a researcher. Her research focuses on preparing teachers to work with bilingual learners in K-12 schools, and integrated approaches to the schooling of bilingual learners, including two-way bilingual education. Dr. de Jong was President of TESOL International Association (2017-2018) and currently serves as editor of the Bilingual Research Journal. Her recent co-edited books include the Handbook of Dual Language Bilingual Education (Routledge, with Juan Freire & Cristina Alfaro) and English language learners in the Southeast (Lexiington Books, with Eric Dwyer, Mary Elizabeth Wilson-Patton)
