Developing English through an understanding of how languages work

November 17, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Virtual Event Virtual Event
- $10.00 – $30.00

In this presentation, presenters from Lexis Education will explore ways of speeding up our EAL students’ learning of English and learning in English through a focus on how languages work to make meaning. This approach draws on a metalanguage (a language for talking about language) for English, which can be equally drawn on to contrast how the students’ additional (or other or primary) languages share similarities or differences with English.

The presentation will include two very different contexts, a new arrivals classroom and an Italian language classroom, where developing such a meta understanding has been a powerful tool in helping students understand how languages work to make meaning.
